Job Requirements for Kid’s Ministry Director

General Description

The Kid’s Ministry Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of ensuring the
spiritual growth and development of nursery through 6 th  grade. This includes visionary
leadership, curriculum selection, volunteer recruitment, and the classroom and operational
management necessary to ensure successful kid’s ministry with weekend services and
periodic special events. This role will work to bring a cohesive and smooth connection for
our families.

Essential Job Requirements

1. Lead a team of paid staff and volunteers in the operation of a kid’s ministry, including
weekend services and periodic special events through clear and simple goals,
responsibilities, and expectations.
2. Regularly select and/or develop curriculum for a kid’s Christian education program
that is part of the church’s weekend service schedule.
3. Maintain kid’s registration, classroom management, and security policies/practices in
support of weekend services and periodic special events.
4. Direct the recruitment, training, and development of volunteers as needed to staff
kid’s ministry classrooms and special events.
5. Cast vision and plan special events such as the annual kid’s outreach event (VBS)
including music selection, development of messages/teaching, and utilization of
games and other artistic elements in the inspiration of children in learning about God.
6. Plan periodic child dedication services as required, meeting the needs and
expectations of families attending the church.
7. Lead the creative use and proactive upkeep of kid’s ministry facilities and grounds.
8. Develop an annual budget for kid’s ministries and manage spending of approved
budget.
9. Oversight of baptism for the Kid’s Ministry which includes but is not limited to meeting
with kids and parents to further the understanding of baptism and facilitate baptism
during a service when the decision to follow Jesus is made by a child.
10. Be willing and always prepared to step in and teach within the ministry, as
necessary.
11. Lead the new family assimilation process to include greeting new families entering
and walking them through the check-in. Follow-up with all new families to make them
feel welcome and connected.
12. Promote and adhere to church policies and procedures.

13. This position reports to the Executive Pastor.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

This position requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a staff member in a
kid’s ministry leadership capacity. Possession of a teaching or related degree is required.
(Extensive ministry experience, in some cases, can be substituted.) The successful
individual will be a strong leader with a solid work ethic, possess a passion for teaching
children about God, and have the ability to administrate as a department head. Working
knowledge of creative programming related to kid’s classes and special events is a real
plus.

Hours:
Church office hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm
This job is full time within the office hours and Sunday services.
The church office is closed on Friday and Saturday but occasionally work on these days may be required.
It is expected that you will attend the monthly ministry planning staff meeting.
