Leslie and Kyle's Life Change Stories

Kyle Murphy’s Life Change Story

My life change story at Fellowship of the Rockies is a story of family and calling. I started going to Fellowship in 2005, when I was seventeen. I’d already come to know Jesus two years before, but this was the rst time I really started getting involved with a youth group. And so, for the rst time in my life, I was surrounded by people (both students and adults) who were pursuing Christ the same way I was trying to, and who were challenging me to do it even better.

To a seventeen year-old high school boy, that’s all great and everything– but it really didn’t hurt when I found out that this cute girl I’d had my eye on since junior high was part of the youth group. I started hanging out with her at church and really started getting to know her heart. Turns out that her heart was just as beautiful as her appearance, as she loved Jesus as much as I did. But I’d never had a girlfriend before. On my way to nding the courage to ask her out, I found out that she was planning on asking someone to the Sadie Hawkins dance. Her mind was already made up about who that would be. I remember making myself sick the next week at school, stressing about who she was going to ask. But at church the next Sunday during youth group, with the help of Randy and Relient K’s “Sadie Hawkin’s Dance”, Erica Samz asked me to Sadie’s. And I knew right then and there, as I looked at her from across the room at “Two-Doors Down”, she was going to be my wife. And four years later, she was. Again, with the help of Randy, Erica and I were married on June 12, 2010.

I’m so thankful for the ways that God has used Fellowship of the Rockies to strengthen my faith, establish Christ-centered relationships, and confirm my life calling. Obviously, it gave me a chance to get to know the heart and soul of the girl who would become my wife, making way for our marriage and our two incredible, God-given miracles, Teagan and Weston. But Fellowship also gave me a chance to grow and to lead. In the summer of 2008, I came back from college to be one of Randy’s summer interns. God had already called me into youth ministry during my rst semester of college, but the relationships, the training, and the experience I gained here during that summer conrmed all God had spoken into that calling. Now, I’m a youth pastor in Boulder, and it’s an incredible thing to know the amazing resources and support that I have in Stewart, Randy, and the rest of the church, just a couple of hours down the interstate.

God has used (and continues to use) Fellowship of the Rockies in my life, and I have no doubt that many other lives have been changed because of what God is doing through this church. I pray that, by God’s grace, like me, many more will hear and be forever changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the members of Fellowship’s family – 20 years from now, and beyond!

Leslie Thomas’ Life Change Story

My life change story at Fellowship of the Rockies is a story of support and recovery. When my husband passed away, I was looking for a church to help me gain some understanding. I live close by so I decided to try FOR. After my rst visit, I was convinced this was the place I was looking for.

When I rst started attending, there were always so many friendly people. It just seemed that the friendly faces and warm hellos were what I needed on that Sunday. One couple that has been such a blessing to me is Sammy and Kathy Payne. They always express care and concern about me and are genuinely interested in what is going on in my life.

I met Darla Self when she was my husband’s morning C.N.A. After he passed away, we continued our friendship. I invited her to come to FOR with me. She often tells me she can’t thank me enough for inviting her. Together we started attending the senior luncheons. We love the food and the warm fellowship. I look forward to them because it’s a great break in my week. I have introduced many of the residents in my building to the senior luncheons and they look forward to coming with me.

I love Fellowship of the Rockies and I love the feeling when I am greeted at the door and welcomed. It makes my week so special.
